FORT WHYTE ALIVE!
Thank you for your patience hikers and walkers as we had to navigate our plans around the unfortunate wildfires situation. HERE IS OUR PLAN
Join Out There as we take a walk through the boar walks and serene forest trails of Fort Whyte Alive(1961 McCreary Rd.) on Sunday, June 29th.
MEETING INFO: Because the new transit system will discontinue service to Fort Whyte, to accommodate those without vehicles we will meet at the Seasons of Tuxedo Tim Horton's(670 Sterling Lyon).
We will gather starting at 2:15, arrange carpooling, and leave around2:30.It is roughly a ten minute drive from the Tim Horton's. We should arrive at the interpretive centre and be able to organize to head on the trails by 3pm.
If you would rather meet us at the interpretative centre, please let us know when you sign up.
PLANNED ROUTE: The two planned trails we will be taking are Bison Butte and Lake Devonian (both can be viewed on Alltrails). These are well groomed, flat trails totalling roughly 8km that meander around the wetland and through the woods with wildlife abound. Expect a walk of around 2 hours.
CONDITIONS: With the dry season we've had, the trails should be in ideal shape. It's always a food idea to check the forecast and dress/hydrate accordingly. Bug spray wouldn't hurt either.
REGISTRATION: To ensure we have rides for those busing from the meet point. YES, please register for this walk. Contact Matt: mattmacneil.wpg@gmail.com
COST: There are different price point for admission: $13 for adults; $12 for 65+, $11 for students and children 3-17, Free for First Nations/Metis and for children under 2. Loonie donation for Out There will also be collected.
It is a short drive to Fort Whyte from the Tim's, but if your catching a lift, please bring $5 for your driver.
DOGGOS: Are unfortunately not permitted on this walk
GUESTS: Are welcome. This is a 2SLGBTQIA+ event, so guests should be community members or allies
