Out There Walk

THE FORKS TO B.D.I.

Join Out There on Sunday, September 14th as we walk along the Red River from one Winnipeg landmark to another, culminating in a sweet treat.

MEETING INFO: We will meet outside The Forks Market (1 Forks Market Way) underneath the skating canopy starting at 1:45, with a planned departure of 2pm.

PARKING:
There is paid parking at The Forks, but if you're willing to walk a little extra, you can find free parking with some research.

BUS:  There are several buses that let off on Main St. (Union Station) or on William Stephenson (CMHR),which are both short walks to the market. The number 31 lets off right at the Market, but runs less frequently.

ROUTE: We will start by going along the Assiniboine River to the Norwood Bridge, where we will come up and connect with the Red River Walk Way.
We will meander south along the river, through Churchill Drive Park and on to BDI, where we will stop for ice cream.
This trail is a mix of paved, gravel, wood chips and dirt. It is very flat and should be totally dry at this point of the year.
One way, this walk is roughly 8km, and should take 2 hours,

FOLLOWING ICE CREAM:  It is encouraged to bring bus fare to get back to your vehicles, or head home. For those who wish, we can also walk back to The Forks.

REGISTRATION: Not required for this walk; simply meet us under the canopy.

COST: Loonie donations for Out There will be collected. BDI accepts cash and debit, if you are purchasing a cool treat.

GUESTS?: This is a 2SLGBTQIA+ event, so guests should be community members or allies.

DOGS?:  Provided they stay on leash and can match our pace, dogs are welcome.

MEETING INFO: We will meet at the Tim Horton's on Dominion Centre (19 Marion Rd.) starting @ 9am, where we will arrange rides, and hopefully get on the road by 9:30am.

BUS: If you are busing to the Tim Horton's, the best option is the FX2, which runs  North/South on Main/St.Mary's.

COST: A loonie donation to Out There will be collected. A $20 payment/passenger is asked for those catching a ride over.

WHAT TO BRING:  Sunscreen, hat, several litres of water, a bagged lunch, a snack or two. As much food as you feel you'll need for a 12km hike.

A swim suit and towel can be brought as there is an option for a swim.

TIMELINE: It is just under a 2-hour drive to the Pine Point trail head. Ideally we'll be on the trail before noon. With a break for lunch, we should complete the first trail in roughly 3 hours.

It is a short drive over to River Bridge Trail at Lake Nutimik. This is an easier trail that should take less than 2 hours.

At completion of this trail, there will be the option of a swim in Lake Nutimik.

Depending on how many opt to swim, and for how long, we should depart around 7pm, and get back into the city before sundown.

LENGTH/DIFFICULTY:  Neither trail is has much elevation, and both are rated as easy/ moderate. The total distance is around 12km. The primary challenge is stepping over rocks and tree roots.

REGISTRATION: Those interested, please contact Don:
mountain_man_29@hotmail.com
Please specify if you can offer a ride or will require a ride. It is imparitive we have enough vehicles.
