Urban Walk

BROKENHEAD WETLANDS  INTERPRETATIVE TRAIL

DESCRIPTION: The Brokenhead Wetland is a unique and fascinating landscape, on the delta where the Red River empties into Lake Winnipeg.  After a short work through a dark, cedar forest, the path opens up onto a boardwalk that runs between the forest and the marsh.  Rose, who knows this terrain well, will point out the many features of the marsh, including a wide variety of crocuses and carnivorous plants that grow along the boardwalk.

This walk is just over 2 km in each direction, all on flat terrain.  We will stop in a shaded spot at the turn-around point for lunch and socializing.

MEETING INFO: We will be meeting at  the Tim Hortons at 25 Donwood Dr, in the shopping plaza that is just south of the Henderson Safeway, near Chief Peguis Trail. We will meet beginning at 10:45, with a planned departure of 11am.

BUS: The F8 runs along Henderson in both directions and will get you close to the Tim Horton's.

CARPOOLING: We will be carpooling from the Tim Horton's to the trailhead. This is roughly a 45 minute drive from the Tim Horton's. All drivers are greatly appreciated.
**We can only proceed if we have enough vehicles**
For those needing a drive, please bring at least $5 to pay your driver.

MEET AT TRAIL-HEAD: If you wish to meet the group at the trail-head, we should all be congregating around 11:45am. It is an easy to miss turn off HWY 59, it would be useful to have a navigator.

DONATIONS:  Please bring a loonie donation for the walk, or a $5 donation for the whole season.

REGISTRATION: Email mattmacneil.wpg@gmail.com and please state if: you will need a ride, can offer a ride, or plan to meet us at the trail-head.
