STURGEON CREEK: SUNSET WALK
Join Out There as we take a nice evening stroll along the shimmering Sturgeon Creek Parkway. We will depart just as the sun is falling and wrap up before sunset with a cool treat at the Portage Ave. Dairy Queen.
MEETING INFO: We will meet outside of the Woodhaven Community Centre (200 Glendale Blvd.) beginning at 6:45pm with a planned departure of 7pm. There is a fair amount of parking in the Community Ctowards entre lot, but using GPS to locate it is advised (the streets are winding).
BUS: The Blue line lets off at Portage and Woodhaven, from where it's a 5 minute walk south to the Community Centre.
TRAIL: We will follow this mostly crushed gravel trail north along Sturgeon Creek, past the old mill and onward toward Saskatchewan Ave, passing under several bridges on our way. If it is overcast and daylight is decreasing faster, our turn around point will be earlier. Sunset should be just after 9pm.
Depending on available daylight, expect a walk of between 5 and 7km taking an hour and a half to two hours.
ICE CREAM: As we make our way across Portage Ave. on our way back, there will be an option to stop into the Dairy Queen for a cool treat (or hot eat) before concluding our walk.
REGISTRATION: Not required for this walk. Simply meet us at Woodhaven before 7pm.
COST: Loonie donations to Out There will be taken. Cost of an Dairy Queen purchase is extra.
GUESTS: Are welcome. This is a 2SLGBTQIA+ event, so guests should be community member or allies.
DOGS: Provided they stay on leash and can match our pace, dogs are welcome, but cannot enter the Dairy Queen.
THE SUN: If it is a clear evening, the setting sun can be very strong. Bring along sunglasses and/or a cap if you can.
