Hiking

Join us for the first walk of our
Spring Season

(Brokenhead Wetland Walk)

in collaboration with
Out There Urban Walks

Sunday, May 17

The Brokenhead Wetland is a unique and fascinating landscape, on the delta where the Red River empties into Lake Winnipeg.  After a short work through a dark, cedar forest, the path opens up onto a boardwalk that runs between the forest and the marsh.  Rose, who knows this terrain well, will point out the many features of the marsh, including a wide variety of crocuses and carnivorous plants that grow along the boardwalk.

This walk is just over 2 km in each direction, all on flat terrain.  We will stop in a shaded spot at the turn-around point for lunch and socializing.

We will meet at the Tim Hortons at 25 Donwood Dr, in the shopping plaza that is just south of the Henderson Safeway, near Chief Peguis Trail.  We will arrange car-pooling and rides there.  (Bus F8; get off at Sutton Ave and walk north, or at Whellams Lane and walk south.)

Meeting Time:  12:45 pm (Sunday, May 17)
Departure Time: 1 pm

We should arrive at the trailhead around 1:45 pm, and begin our Winnipeg by 4 pm. Those who wish may visit one of the Lake Winnipeg beaches, just a few kilometres north -- though there may still be ice on Lake Winnipeg).

Please bring $1 for Out There -- or $5 for the whole hiking season.
