Where: Beside Memorial Park between York and Broadway.
The float and Marshals should arrive between 8:15 – 8:45. One Marshal is to check in at the tent on Memorial and Broadway (Kelsey will do this) to grab 4 Marshal vests and our float number as well as drop off a sample of what we will be handing out. Once we have our number, we can line up in ROW C – first come, first serve for the order.
All walkers are welcome to arrive sometime between 8:00 – 10:45. If you arrive later than 10:45, we cannot guarantee that you will be allowed into the area. The Rally at the Legislative Building begins at 10am. No music from our float is to be playing during this time. I encourage that you attend the rally to hear from the Grand and Youth Marshals who will provide further parade instruction. Please note that there will be no one allowed on the float. The float will simply be carrying our supplies. You will be provided with schwag to hand out - Subway free cookie coupons, mini soccer balls and our OTW business cards. Please bring a reusable bag (or many if you have) for us to carry the items. Please note that we are limited on the amount of giveaway items we have so please distribute slowly. Please do not throw to the crowd, but rather hand out items and ensure garbage makes it into a receptacle.
If you need any assistance, feel threatened or are unsure what to do – please find a Marshal or Board Member. Our float Marshals and Board Members on site this year are: Kelsey Lambert, Carolann Leopold, Chris Voth, Thomas Novak and Allan Gray. They will be in special vests to easily be identified. There are also other Marshals in green and pink vests throughout the parade as well as police officers and on-site security.
Please bring sunscreen and wear hats, proper shoes and appropriate clothing. Prepare for a slow and hot but fun walk! Wear your Out There Winnipeg shirts if you have one and/or dress to the neon 80s aerobics/sporty theme. If you would like a shirt, we will have them for sale for $15.00 at the Orientation on Wednesday (cash or credit). Small snacks and water will be provided but this is a long morning/afternoon, so you will need to bring some food and water with you also.
At the end of the parade, feel free to wander over to the festival at the Forks.
Thanks everyone for your attention and involvement in Out There Winnipeg Pride this year. This email just goes over the logistics but remember, this will be a really fun experience. While you’re walking, wave to the crowd, hand out your schwag, do a little dance or whatever you feel along way. BRING SPORTS EQUIPMENT WITH YOU. We'd love to see some bikes riding and balls being tossed around to show what our organization does. We will be providing some balls and Frisbees but don't have enough for everyone. If you're tired of tossing the ball, you can leave it in the truck so don't feel like you'll be stuck with it the whole parade long.
Thank you so much! If I’ve missed anything or you have any concerns and can’t attend the meeting on Wednesday, you can reach Kelsey at 204-407-0218.
Happy Pride everyone!
