Carman-Stephenfield Urban Walk
These are 2 walks in the Carman area that, together add up to 12 km. Both are relatively easy walks, along flat and well-maintained trails. The first is through Stephenfield Provincial Park and the second around the outskirts of Carman. In between the two trails, we will stop at the famous Carman Bakery.
The Stephenfield trail winds along campsites, a beach, yurts and tracts of prairie that host wildflowers and grasses, including lady's-slipper orchids.
The Carman portion is along the Carman Active Living Community Bike-and-Foot Path. Part of this trail features tall grass prairie and a scenic river path that follows the meandering Boyne River.
This hike will be led by Rose. Please note that this hike is a Homo sapiens only event.
The meeting place will be the Grant Park Plaza McDonald's (1120 Grant) at the corner of Grant and Nathaniel, behind the Petro-can, in front of the Co-op Grocery. (Use Bus #66) Car-pooling will be arranged there. Meeting time will be at 9:15 a.m. to be ready for a departure for Carman at 9:30 am. Stephenfield Park is about 1 hour from Winnipeg.
Remember to bring water, lunch and refreshments, your camera and a provincial park pass, if you have one. You may want to bring extra footwear in case some of the trails are muddy. Please remember to offer your driver $15 to $20. We also suggest a $1 contribution to Out There (up to a maximum of $5 for the season).
To register (if you have not yet done so), please send an email to Rose at email@example.com.
Looking forward to seeing many of you then.
